Plantar warts are hard, grainy growths that appear on the bottom of the foot, usually on the heels or balls of the feet. They’re caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters through tiny cuts or cracks in the skin.
Small, rough, or grainy bumps on the sole of the foot
Black dots ("wart seeds") – These are actually small blood vessels
Pain or tenderness when walking or standing
Thickened, callus-like skin over the wart
Can spread – More warts may appear over time
Walking barefoot in public places – Showers, locker rooms, pools, etc.
Direct contact with the virus – Touching infected surfaces or skin
Small cuts or cracks on feet – Allow the virus to enter
Weakened immune system – Some people are more prone to HPV infections
Podiatrist may perform Cryotherapy (Freezing the Wart) – Podiatrist-administered liquid nitrogen.
