At Glad Feet Podiatry we pride ourselves on providing you with an outstanding service. We do this by investing in the latest technology and training. Here are some of the specialised services that we can offer you:
Shock Wave Therapy
Shockwaves are used to treat a wide range of pathologies in areas such as tendinopathies, muscular trigger points/myofascial pain such as plantar fasciitis and heel pain.
Myofascial trigger points are sensitive areas which can occur in tight muscles. These spots are painful when compressed and can cause nerve related pain and tenderness.
Dry needling involves the use of small hollow needles which are placed into the muscle where a trigger point is present. This aims to reduce the painful symptoms by activating a twitch response providing relief from the tight muscle.
The stimulation achieved in the fibres of the trigger points lead to a widening of blood vessels. This can cause a ‘wash out effect’, reducing the concentration of pain inducing chemicals.
Dry needling can also produce an inflammatory effect, which may making the healing process faster.
Types of conditions that can be treated:
Dry needling is used to treat a range of conditions in the lower limb including:
Heel pain and Plantar fasciitis
Shin Splints
Achilles Tendinopathy
Calf pain
Pain in the forefoot
The treatment regimen recommended is once a week for six weeks. Each consultation consists of 2-6 needles which are placed in the muscle for 5-10 minutes each.
PACT fungal toenail treatment
If you are one of the estimated 1.6 million Australians who are affected by a nail fungal infection you will be pleased to hear we can offer you an alternative form of treatment called PACT to treat your infection. This treatment works by combining a special gel and photodynamic light therapy which cause fungal cell death without affecting the surrounding tissues.
Our Podiatrist will initially assess your feet to determine your suitability for this treatment, they will factor in:
How severe the infection is?
The total number of infected toenails?
How you have responded to treatments previously?
If suitable, they will then provide you with a comprehensive treatment to reduce the thickness of your fungal toenails and may also apply a chemical to further soften them.
At Glad Feet Podiatry our orthotics are now prescribed using the latest state of the art technology. By using a camera that scans your feet to generate a digital 3D image, a pair of affordable orthotics are made with the highest quality in a Melbourne based orthotic lab.
First our podiatrist will perform a biomechanical assessment to assess the function of the muscles in your lower legs and feet and then we will watch you walking and perform a gait analysis. This will enable us to see your suitability for orthotics, if orthotics are required our podiatrist will recommend the orthotic that best suits your feet. We will then fill in a prescription form and send it to an orthotics lab in Melbourne. Once ready the orthotic is then placed into your shoes and helps to keep your feet in the correct alignment. which may also assist in correcting the alignment of the shins, knees, hips, lower and upper back.
You may need orthotics if you experience any of the following:
• If you have painful arches and heels
• If your feet are flat and cause pain
• If you have pain in your ankles, shins, knees or back
• If you have pain in the ball of your foot
• If you have bunions
• If your feet point inward or outward when you walk
We also make orthotics for children.
Ingrown toenail surgery
If your ingrown toenail has been longstanding then our Podiatrists are trained to perform a surgical procedure to correct this problem. The Surgery is performed at our Clinic underneath a Local Anaesthetic. The nail edge is permanently removed and you are able to return to work within a few days of the procedure. This procedure can also be claimable under your Private Health Fund.
